Expect a fun weekend of music and art that all can enjoy. Two highlights are the music festival and the pop-up dinner party. Candlelight For A Cause Music Festival was conceived as a capstone event for the popular Sunday Jazz Series. This celebration of music, art, and community has now come into its own as a family festival and fundraiser for various charitable organizations. Feature artist for 2017: The Georgia Horns.
The Georgia Horns was formed on May 7, 2011 to play for the Blind Willie McTell Blues Festival in Thomson, GA. The group is a mixture of youth, experience, talent, and infectious soul. All of the members were mostly born and reared in the Peach State, or have lived in Georgia for some time. Although all have various influences from various genres, The Georgia Horns are about the most important element of jazz: SWING!
Described by some as a performance art picnic, WHITE DINNER – AUGUSTA is a pop-up dinner party, modeled after the hugely popular Diner en Blanc, guests dress in white and dine al fresco from picnic baskets they've packed beforehand. This event is held onsite of the music festival, so guests enjoy two events for the price of one.
“It’s important that we attract and provide activities for family reunions and casual visitors to the downtown area. There are so many attractions and beautiful spaces here, if we provide our guests with a great experience, then they’ll return… and bring friends. We’ve got to let people know that we’re here,” Karen Gordon said.
New to the holiday weekend lineup (and still taking shape) are several music events in South Augusta – and old school concert at the Private I Entertainment Complex and a pop-up jazz event at a secret location. Those details will be released on the host website as available.
Garden City Jazz presents several programs annually in the Greater Augusta Area, providing performance opportunities for area jazz musicians and music students, while promoting awareness of the historical and cultural significance of jazz music.
